  • Year: 1954
  • Run time: 1:33:44
  • Director: Robert Rossen
  • Starring: Silvana Mangano, Michael Rennie, Vittorio Gassman, Shelley Winters, Katherine Dunham

Product Description
Director Robert Rossen was blacklisted from US filmmaking after he was accused of being a communist supporter. With few other options, the brilliant Rossen went to Italy and made Mambo, a stunningly subversive film with love, lust, and spectacular dancing. Dark and enigmatic, Rossen’s Mambo is the sordid story of young, desperate, and impoverished characters who are awe struck by the glamour of fame and fortune. Silvana Mangano, the lead actress, flows through the film with a sensuousness and sexual presence rarely captured on film. While trying to become a dancer, she is courted by two more or less reprehensible men who help bring her career to greater heights. In her travels, there are glorious scenes of mesmerizing and highly skilled dancing: prominently featured is Katherine Dunham, one of the greatest dance performers of all time. Mambo is provocative and powerful, as well as darkly artistic, a combination that weaves a beautiful nightmare.

The Dancers at the End of Time

November 18th, 2010

Product Description
Enter a decaying far, far future society, a time when anything and everything is possible, where words like ‘conscience’ and ‘morality’ are meaningless, and where heartfelt love blossoms mysteriously between Mrs Amelia Underwood, an unwilling time traveller, and Jherek Carnelian, a bemused denizen of the End of Time. The Dancers at the End of Time, containing the novels An Alien Heat, The Hollow Lands and The End of All Songs, is a brilliant homage to the 1890s of Wilde, Beardsley and the fin de siecle decadents, satire at its sharpest and most colourful.

August 18th, 2006

I am an inexperienced dancer but very, very interested in perusing dance. I have had 3 years of teen hip hop, 1 year of beginner ballet, and this is my first year of Teen Jazz. I have also taken a 15 hour intermediate dance camp this summer which contained ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap and theater. do you think i can become a dancer after i graduate? if so… how do i do it?
